40 Over 40 Project:

Celebrating women whose power, beauty, strength, grace, and spirit do not diminish with age.

I have photographed, profiled and celebrated 40 women over the age of 40.

WHY 40 OVER 40?

I have been witness to the strength and resilience of all kinds of women in my life but the stories that get to my heart the most often, are the ones of women that society used to label as “past their prime”.

What gives me hope for the future is that I have met woman after woman that have said HELL YES! Women that refuse to be labelled or diminished, are now stepping into their own power. Personally, I feel like I am only beginning to hit my stride. Now I feel called to give a platform to 40 of these women. I want them to be seen, celebrated and have a platform to use their voice to call out to us. I want women all over to hear their stories and be inspired. Will you join me on this journey?

I would like you to meet the UNSTOPPABLE

Chris had been photographed by me before. When she heard about my project, she jumped at the chance to work with me again. You would think that having had a great experience already would make you less nervous, but that is often not the case. So many of my clients say, when they come back for their second shoot with me, that they were wondering if their first session was a fluke! That there is no way that they can recreate the magic again 😉 I proved her wrong.

I chose this photo because one of Chris’ many passions is country music. When she saw my cow print chair in the studio, she was so excited to use it in some of her photos. The cowboy hat was an obvious choice for that. THIS is what the photoshoots are intended to be: this is about capturing all the different versions of you. That can include full glam with gowns and tulle, but it doesn’t have to. Chris ended up with an incredible variety of images that gave her confidence to enter the next stage of her career and her life. In fact, not long after the shoot, she messaged me to tell me some incredible news about her work life. I am so excited to watch the next phase of her business!

What is the one piece of advice you would give your 20 something self?

“The one piece of advice I would give my 20-something self is to always believe in yourself.”

Always believe in yourself.

"Playing small does not serve the world."

What gets you up in the morning?

“There is definitely a series of events that get me up in the morning! The first in the trilogy is my three, four-legged personal trainers (Holly, Jack, and Miley) who never fail to inspire me with their energy and enthusiasm to get out for our morning walk! Next, I have grown to truly love getting my mojo going with my 7:15am CrossFit fam where we share our love/hate relationship for the WOD (Workout Of the Day) and start our day challenging ourselves, cheering each other, and becoming a little better every day. Finally, my passion for helping employees and entrepreneurs confidently master their mental game to become ‘elite business athletes’ and achieve their full potential is my deepest fear and greatest thrill that relentlessly reminds me that my playing small does not serve the world.”

When in your life, so far, have you felt most confident and why?

“I have always felt the most confident when I surround myself with people with big dreams, goals, ideas, and who challenge me to operate outside of my comfort zone – where the excitement begins! These people are a collection of family, friends, colleagues, teammates, and an endless string of authors who encourage me to think differently, act boldly, and never settle.”

I have always felt the most confident when I surround myself with people with big dreams, goals, and ideas!

I'd say CONFIDENCE is the most attractive, impactful, influential way I can show up in this world.

Have your perceptions of what being “attractive” means changed over time? What do you define as attractive now?

“This is a tough one because I’m not sure my goal has ever really been to be “attractive”. Don’t get me wrong, it’s always been important to me to look my best but I think I’ve tried harder to make an impact on people with my mind and energy than with how I look. I suppose it’s a package deal and, if I had to define it, I’d say CONFIDENCE is the most attractive/impactful/influential way I can show up in this world.”

Are there any myths you would like to bust about being a woman over 40? If so, can you tell us about them?

“The biggest myth I’d like to bust about being over 40 is that it’s too late to be, do, have what you want so you’d better just be happy and settle for what you get. I say that it’s time you finally figure out what you really WANT to do, be, have, and go get it! You don’t need permission, you don’t need to justify, you simply need to DECIDE and CONQUER. You are Capable, you are Courageous, and if all you need is a little Confidence, reach out anytime – I got you!”

[Being over 40] it's not too late to finally figure out what you really WANT to do, be, have, and go get it!

Is there anything you would like to share with people in your life?

“It has taken me too long to figure out that it’s much more fun to be in the game than on the bench, or in the stands. My life is meant for going all in, leading with my heart, and failing forward. That’s where the best stories come from.”
