40 Over 40 Project:

Celebrating women whose power, beauty, strength, grace, and spirit do not diminish with age.

I have photographed, profiled and celebrated 40 women over the age of 40.

WHY 40 OVER 40?

I have been witness to the strength and resilience of all kinds of women in my life but the stories that get to my heart the most often, are the ones of women that society used to label as “past their prime”.

What gives me hope for the future is that I have met woman after woman that have said HELL YES! Women that refuse to be labelled or diminished, are now stepping into their own power. Personally, I feel like I am only beginning to hit my stride. Now I feel called to give a platform to 40 of these women. I want them to be seen, celebrated and have a platform to use their voice to call out to us. I want women all over to hear their stories and be inspired. Will you join me on this journey?

I would like you to meet the UNSTOPPABLE

JANINE TAYLOR

Janine is a force of nature. She is fun, adventurous, a successful business owner and a loving mom. But like so many powerful and successful women, she HATES being photographed (except by me now:). Who would have ever guessed this to be true? I really think now, she sees herself the way the people that love and respect her see her.

What is the one piece of advice you would give your 20 something self?

“Things are going to be very, very tough at times but you are strong, resilient and in the end your life works out exactly as it’s meant to and even better than you thought it could.”

Life works out exactly as it's meant to and even better than you thought it could.

I'm grateful for each day that I can wake up, be a Mom first, a business owner second and strive to be the best version of myself.

What gets you up in the morning?

“At my now age of 55, the fact that I feel well and healthy enough to get up and get going so early in the morning is enough for me to launch my day. I have the responsibilities of several businesses that I strive every day to meet the needs of. More importantly I’m grateful for each day that I can wake up, be a Mom first, a business owner second and strive to be the best version of myself.”

When in your life, so far, have you felt most confident and why?

“I would say my confidence started to grow personally and professionally, as I entered my late 40’s and into my 50’s. I had grown our businesses to a level that I was more secure in my abilities and leadership. And I went through a personal transformation both emotionally and somewhat physically over the last 7-8 years. I started to make certain life choices that changed my chemistry in a way. Achieving certain goals, changing my healthy habits, growing our businesses with my partner, all contributed to a growing confidence.”

Achieving certain goals, changing my healthy habits, growing our businesses with my partner, all contributed to a growing confidence.

It wasn't until I was in my early 50's that I truly started to believe that attractiveness can be embodied as much by how you feel as how you may 'look'.

Have your perceptions of what being “attractive” means changed over time?

“I felt most attractive in my early 30’s and again in my early 50’s. But I believe now it wasn’t until I was in my early 50’s that I truly started to believe that attractiveness can be embodied as much by how you feel as how you may ‘look’. I made a conscious decision at that age to age as gracefully as possible. To accept the wrinkles and changes in my face and body as marks of life experience and not something negative.”

Are there any myths you would like to bust about being a woman over 40? If so, can you tell us about them?

“I feel that the narratives about what women wear, the hairstyle they may have, the things they may choose to do or not do, are sometimes ‘discouraged’ after a certain age are ridiculous. Be unique, true to yourself, and rock what makes you happy regardless of your age. It can be infectious.”

Is there anything you would like to share with people in your life?

“At 55 I can say I feel comfortable in my own skin, and a sense of peace I’ve never felt before. It was a bit of a journey to get here but so worth it in the end and I wouldn’t trade where I am today for anything.”
